Major Accomplishments and Announcements
- Johnson & Johnson plans to spend more than $55 billion to build four plants in the U.S. over the next four years as the threat of drug import duties by the Trump administration compels companies to expand their manufacturing operations domestically.
- South Korean conglomerate Hyundai announced a roughly$21 billion investment in U.S. onshoring that includes a $5.8 billion steel plant in Louisiana.
- Employers added jobs in March at a much stronger pace than expected, a sign that the labor market remained strong despite economic uncertainty and market turbulence.
- Inflation cooled last month, with a year-over-year measure of underlying prices falling to its lowest level in four years. Consumer prices were up 2.4% in March from a year earlier, the Labor Department said, cooler than February’s gain of 2.8%and well below the 2.6% rise that economists expected.
- Vice President JD Vance held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as New Delhi looks to avoid American tariffs, negotiate a bilateral trade deal with Washington and strengthen ties with the Trump administration.
