Meir Ben-Shabbat currently serves as the Head of the Misgav Institute for National Security in Israel. Between 2017 and 2021, he served as Israel’s National Security Advisor and Head of the National Security Council (NSC), playing a key role in negotiating the Abraham Accords.
Prior to that, he served for 30 years in the Israel Security Agency (the Shin Bet), heading three separate divisions at a rank equivalent to Major General in the IDF. These roles included leading the Counter-Terrorism, Research, and Policy Division, the SIGINT and Cyber Division, and the Southern Command as Commander of the Gaza Strip and Southern Israel Sector.
Additionally, he served as a director at RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems and on the advisory board of the SIBF venture capital fund. He currently serves on the advisory boards of public bodies in Israel in the fields of management and leadership. He was also awarded the US Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service.
